Matthew Moran presents workshops nationally on technology, business, creativity, and social media content. He continues to perform as a songwriter in multiple venues, including in Phoenix and Los Angeles. Now, he is combining the two to create, The Songwriter & Social Media Tour –a combination musical tour supporting his new CD, “Girls, Songs, and Other Delusions“, and a series of social media & business technology related workshops co-branded or sponsored by chamber of commerce groups, colleges, and other professional organizations.

In addition to his new CD, songwriter Matthew Moran has a background as a blogger, podcaster, and business consultant. While planning a show, he was asked to provide a workshop on how to effectively use Facebook. From this request an idea was born.
Drawing on his experience as a workshop presenter, technology consultant, and as a performer.

“There is a lot of confusion about social media and technology for businesses and individuals,” Matt said recently, “and a lot of people feel they are going to miss the bandwagon if they don’t act quickly.”
But Matt cautions against the often knee-jerk, jump into social media, reaction that many businesses and individuals take.

“Social media is a tool and a potentially powerful tool but if it is not part of an integrated marketing strategy, it can be a huge time-waster,” he continued. “It is certainly not a panacea and will not make up for bad product, inefficient business practices, or the lack of a sales & marketing plan.”

That is why two of the workshops focus on directly social media as part of a broader marketing plan. “Don’t Waste Your Time: The Ugly Truth About Social Media” and “Online Presence Roadmap: A Top-Down Strategy for Exposure & Efficiency“.

Other workshops include: “Creating Your First Blog or Podcast Using WordPress”, “Creating Audio or Video for Nothing or Next-To-Nothing”“Online Collaborative Technologies: Using Google Applications To Share and Collaborate”, and “Technology, Social Media, and Strategy for Performers, Artist, and Similar Creative Personalities”.

Each is provided in a case-study and example format and include interactive question and answers to help businesses and individuals see where they can apply the tools and strategies in their own business.

Building a Better Mousetrap

Once in awhile, we all luck-out and find the perfect opportunity that fits are personality and business style. I found that recently when I was introduced to DubLi

Once in awhile, we all luck-out and find the perfect opportunity that fits are personality and business style. I found that recently when I was introduced to DubLi. I know…you’ve probably never heard of it, exactly my point. Neither had I. When I reviewed the information I found that it was the perfect almost-groundfloor opportunity to increase my financial stability in a fluxuating economy and eventually ‘exit’ into some kind of meanful retirement.

I’m not much for planning the classic retirement where you go lie on a beach sipping Mai Tai’s endlessly…though an occasional week of that here-and-there sounds great! No, I’m planning on ‘working’ in some way, shape or form until the day my life transitions into the next.

Is DubLi a ‘better mousetrap’…IMHO, a resonding, YES! They have formulated a reverse auction and business plan that just gets better by the day (I’ll post some more info soon on my “DubLi Info” page I just created). In the meantime…stay tuned here and connect with each other, that will always be part of my life plan!

Twitter collaborative writing experiment

I had an idea this morning; in the restricted 140 character context, can…and will…a group of writers contribute to a story? If so, on what topic would such a group enjoy collaborating? Romance and murder-mysteries seem to be popular, but neither interest me much. Perhaps if I start something that interests me, others who follow me will be inspired to also contribute.
So, I’m starting this conversation with the hopes that others will also want to join in. I’ll give it a few days to ‘cook’ and then start writing to see if the experiment can take off.

Introducing a World of New Users to Social Media

This will be basically a boiling-down of the plethora of information I’ve digested in the last week or so since signing up with my initial account on Twitter.

I’m preparing a free ‘cheat-sheet’ for joining or changing Twitter account information. There seems to be plenty of intelligent people out there who are next to clueless about how to do this.

This will be basically a boiling-down of the plethora of information I’ve digested in the last week or so since signing up with my initial account on Twitter. I’ve been on Facebook now for over a year and I learned so-much-more in the last week after being on Twitter than I had in the last year on Facebook. Why, it’s complicated, but perhaps because I’ve already starting referring to Twitter as “Facebook on SPEED!” Perhaps because it’s been a journey of accelerated learning that Facebook started, but Twitter really ignited in me.

My working title is: “How Twitter Changed My Life in Less Than One Week!” with a sub-title of “The Top Ten Things You MUST Know Before Joining the Social Media Revolution on Twitter”. Any comments or suggestions about either of these? I’d love to hear from this community.

NOTE: @unmarketing just said: “Out of 90 ppl in the room, 2 had heard of Twitter. Le sigh” We’re the leading-edge still people! The Twitter-World is our NEW oyster…
